University of Rochester Solar Splash

Team

Hull

Picture
Researches materials, building methods, and designs for the hull. The Hull team will then lead the construction process for this component. In addition, they will work closely with the Engine Committee to design a steering and trim system.

Skills Learned: Woodworking, Fiber-glassing, Machining, CAD

Current Members:
Nick Troche (ME 2011)
Mike Echter (ME 2013)
Ethan Siegler (ME 2013)

Drivetrain

Picture
In charge of researching materials, building methods, and designs for both the drive system and the engine mount. This concentrates around DC motors and either the inboard or outboard drive train assembly for boats. This committee will utilize CAD software to design various parts, and machining methods to construct the Engine assembly.

Skills Learned: Welding, Machining, CAD, CNC Milling

Current Members:

Lucca Giannechini (ME 2012)

Solar Electric

Picture
The Solar Electric Committee will research and develop the vital solar array and battery system. Included in this is a Pulse Width Modulation system that will drive the dc motor assembly prepared by the drivetrain committee. They also will work closely with the drivetrain committee to make sure their developed power plant will work with the electric drive system.

Skills Learned: Soldering, Circuitry, Systems Analysis
